Description

hello, I’m the maintainer of FluentValidation, which is already a .net foundation member project.

I was wondering whether the foundation is able to provide domain and dns hosting for member projects?

I’m not currently actively developing FluentValidation beyond minimal maintenance, and I’m not keen on paying for domain hosting for the fluentvalidation.net domain name for another few years (it’s currently due to expire on 17th June)

At the same time, I don’t really want to let the domain lapse as this risks bad actors registering it, which is a big risk given the popularity of the project.

Would the .net foundation have the capacity to take ownership of the domain name, as well as preserve the necessary dns records to keep the doc site up and running?

The domain has the following DNS setup:

  • For the root domain, A records pointing to github pages (configured as a branch within the FluentValidation github repo).
    • This github pages site just does a redirect to the docs subdomain
  • docs.fluentvalidation.net subdomain: CNAME pointing to readthedocs.io

Many thanks
